On 5th June, 1948 the Wales Council for the Blind opened the Southerndown Home for the Blind and Elderly, originally offering holidays for people with visual impairment.

Southerndown Care Home has a caring and homely atmosphere.  There is a rich programme of activities, with a Sensory Stimulation area and Social Activities Room.

The Home has its own minibus and car, and ensures that all Out Patient Hospital appointments are attended by residents, together with an escort.

Respite and day care facilities are available, together with approximately 40 permanent places.  Three large and comfortable lounges allow plenty of space for all residents and entertainment.

A room is set aside for visitors who are welcome at any time.

Clients with sight problems are given priority, and the Home is Registered under the auspices of the Wales Council for the Blind.  The Home is a Registered Charity and any profits are used to improve and upgrade facilities.

A Comforts Committee helps to raise extra funds by holding various events, such as Firework Display in November, Christmas Fayre, Summer Fete, Cheese & Wine.

If you wish to visit, please telephone 01656 880780.

Can you spare an hour or so a week to work with a small group or on a one to one basis to help with an activity programme?  Please contact the Southerndown Care Home for more details.
