Fraudulent Letters

Letters have been sent to residents in various areas, including South Wales, purporting to be from companies or solicitors, which suggest that money has been accidentally paid into the wrong account.  These letters are worded along the lines of:  The following amount has been paid into your bank account by mistake, please re-pay this immediately by sending a cheque to ....

Do not send a cheque - contact your bank using the telephone number shown on your statement or local directory and if money has been accidentally paid into your account ask your bank to return it.  Should you receive such a letter and your bank can confirm that it is not genuine, contact the Police and show them the letter
