LATEST:

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Mary Pells Cocks.  The funeral service will take place in the church at Ogmore-by-Sea on Tuesday, 27th July 2010 at 12.00 noon and will be a celebration of the life of Mary.

St. Donat's Chamber Choir need singers to join their group, especially bass.  This small, friendly cappella choir sings mainly European Sacred music, Madrigals and Latin Masses from the last 450 years. Practice takes place at 7.30 pm at Ewenny Priory Church.

Look out for information following the public meeting in St. Brides Major Church Hall on Tuesday 16th June, 2009 and the Community Council Planning Committee meeting held on Monday 22 June, 2009 to discuss the submission of a planning proposal by Bridgend County Borough Council to build around 50-70 houses on the old Ogmore Camp site in Ogmore-by-Sea.  More information from WalesOnline website.  This is a separate proposal to the plans put forward by Wig Fach Property to develop the caravan site, together with the Ogmore Camp site to retain an educational facility, and include the provision of a pub and village hall.  A third proposal has been put forward by Kingswood to purchase the whole site for educational purposes which was discussed at a meeting on Thursday 20th August, 2009.

Also look out for meetings regarding planning application for the Sea Lawns Hotel site.

Inconsiderate parking, antisocial behaviour, lighting of illegal fires and damage to the Common have all been a cause of concern to Ogmore-by-Sea residents are therefore a PACT priority.  Did you know these incidents can be reported by calling 101 which is a non-emergency number?

Do you buy milk in plastic bottles?  If so, please consider collecting the green tops and taking them to St. Bridget's Church, St. Brides Major, or All Saints Church, Southerndown, to help Heronsbridge School - and why not take along stamps for Children in Distress too!

The following leaders are required for Ogmore Down Cub Scout Group (boys and girls aged from 8 to 10˝ years) which meets Monday evenings from 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm in the Scout Hall, St. Brides Major; if you are unable to take on one of these positions, do you know someone else who may be interested?  If you would like to help run the group, perhaps to prepare refreshments or assist with activities, your contribution would be welcomed and much appreciated.

Cub Scout Leader – This is the hands-on scouting leadership role that people usually think of when they think of Scouts. It is a position that requires about an hour and a half time with the children a week with some preparation time around this. There is a structured training programme in place that new adults to scouting are supported with and there is also a wealth or resources to support the programme itself which is not dissimilar to a school curriculum that focuses on numerous areas of child development.

Group Scout Leader – This position is not directly associated with the children in scouting at all. It is almost a ‘branch manager’ type position that suits people that are comfortable managing other adults and have organisational skills. The general role includes chairing meetings, ensuring effective communication within the group and managing the scout groups’ relationship with the wider community.

Please contact Chris Matthews, Regional Development Officer, Welsh Scout Council on 029 2023 1975 for more information.
