SOUTHERNDOWN RIDING CLUB 

The Quadrille Team took part in the 2006 Elvis Presley Convention.  As a thank you to their sponsors, an Equestrian Charity Evening was held in Pencoed.  The exhibition included riding to music by Queen and Status Quo, aerobics with your horse, riding side saddle, dressage to music and a display by the Quadrille Team.  Click here for Southerndown Riding Club Gallery photos

HERITAGE ENSEMBLE 

Music group for adults and children of all standards from Grade 2 onwards.  Rehearsals on Tuesdays from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm in St. Brides Major Church Hall.  Why not come along and play your favourite classics and popular tunes. 

ORRA  (Ogmore retired residents association) 

Alternate Thursdays at 2.00 pm in The Watermill, Ogmore Village, during term time.  After summer, Christmas and Easter breaks the first session begins with a bar lunch at 12.00 noon.  The association also has coach trips every month.  All are welcome to these informal social occasions.  Click here for more details of ORRA.

THURSDAY CLUB

ST. BRIDES MAJOR KEEP FIT CLUB 

Scouts Hall, St. Brides Major, from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm every Tuesday.  All ages / All abilities.  Qualified tuition, easy to follow.  Just for fun or to keep in trim, come and join in.  Formed in 1981.  Wear comfortable shoes or trainers and bring something to lie on for floor work, such as an old bath towel, thick blanket or floor mat. 

AEROBICS CLASS 

St. Brides Major Church Hall, at 7.30 pm every Monday.  Fancy feeling fitter?  Trying to get in trim?  Make a good start to the week ... join a qualified aerobics instructor for a fun fitness class aimed at adults of all abilities.  Wear comfortable clothes and trainers and bring some water to drink. 

PILATES CLASS 

Thursday from 12.45 pm to 2.45 pm held at St. Brides Major Village Hall.  More information from Vale of Glamorgan Community Learning Centre. 

MERTHYR MAWR W.I.

ST. BRIDGET'S CHURCH, ST. BRIDES MAJOR 

(1)  RECORDER GROUP meet Mondays at 5.30 pm in the Vicarage. 

(2)  BELL RINGERS meet Mondays at 7.00 pm in the Church. 

(3)  JUNIOR RECORDER GROUP meet Wednesdays 4.30 pm at the Church Hall. 

(4)  ST. BRIDGET'S ORCHESTRA meet Wednesdays at 6.00 pm in the Church Hall. 

(5)  PARENTS & TODDLERS meet Friday mornings 10.00 am to 12.00 noon in the Church Hall. 

(6)  YOUTH CLUB meet Sundays from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm in the Church Hall.  For school years 6-9.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on their first visit for registration. 

(7)  SUNDAY SCHOOL meet every week except the first Sunday of the month at 9.45 am in the Church Hall.

PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP

OGMORE-BY-SEA EVANGELICAL CHURCH 

(1)  Toybox Toddlers for pre-school children and their mothers.  Meet in the Church at 10.30 am on Tuesdays. 

(2)  Lighthouse Club for children 4-7 years old.  Meet in the Church at 4.45 pm on Fridays. 

(3)  Searchlight Club for young people of 8-11 years.  Meet in the Church at 5.45 pm on Fridays. 

(4)  Youth Group for young adults aged 11+ years.  Meet at 7.00 pm on Fridays.

Cubs meet in the Scout Hall, St. Brides Major, from 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm on Monday evenings.
Scout troop meet in the Scout Hall, St. Brides Major from 7.45 pm to 9.00 pm on Monday evenings.

BROWNIES 

Scout Hall, St. Brides Major, every Tuesday at 6.00 pm.  In 2006 St. Brides Major Brownies joined with Wick Brownies.

YOUTH CLUB 

For 11 to 16 year olds, held every Tuesday during term time from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm at the Pavilion, St. Brides Major.  Many activities including internet facilities. 

KARATE CLUB  

Thursday evenings, term time, in the School Hall, St. Brides Major.  Juniors, beginners and red belts 6.00 pm to 6.45 pm.  All other grades 6.45 pm to 7.00 pm.  Come along and talk to Graham if you would like to know more. 

JIU JITSU CLUB 

Tuesday evening in St. Brides Major School Hall.  Juniors (age 8-14 years) from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm.  Seniors (age 15+ years) 8.00 pm to 9.00 pm.  Formed 29th April 2008. 

SOUTHERNDOWN SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB  

Lifeguard clubs are usually affiliated to a national body such as The Royal Lifesaving Society and/or the Surf Lifesaving Association of Wales.  Most clubs have three sections: Nippers or Rookies for ages 7 to 12; Youth for ages 12 to 19; Seniors; some also have a Masters group.  During the summer older members take part in volunteer patrols.  Training takes place at local swimming pools in the winter and there is the opportunity of working towards awards and exams as well as learning first aid.  Social and fundraising events are also held throughout the year.

Time trials and road races that pass through the villages of our Parish are held by various clubs throughout the year.

Several clubs follow the varied walks and rights of way in the villages and surrounding area, all through the year.

THREE VILLAGES CARNIVAL COMMITTEE 

Some time ago, the villagers organised regular Carnivals but this activity gradually became less popular and eventually ceased.  A new Committee was set up which resulted in a Millennium Carnival being held, and two years later a Jubilee Carnival took place to celebrate the succession to the throne in 1952 of HM Queen Elizabeth II.  For information and photos of these events, click here.   

VALE CRICKET CLUB 

Youth, 3rd team and Sunday cricket are played at Southerndown and 1st and 2nd team cricket played at Corntown.  Vale Cricket Club was formed from Southerndown, Ewenny and Corntown clubs in 2004.  Look out for poster giving details of Vale Cricket Club Youth Registration Night in April for players aged 7 and over.  Nets start in May and are held at 6.30 pm - Meet in the Pavilion, Corntown.  Visit Vale Cricket Club web site.
