Accommodation:  There are several bed & breakfast establishments which can be found on the Wales Tourist Board Information web site and/or our Business Page.

Public transport: click on appropriate link in left column for services and timetable information.  There is a local bus service comprised of:

No. 145 from Llantwit Major via St. Brides Major and the coast (ie also travels to Southerndown and Ogmore-by-Sea) to Ewenny and on to Bridgend Bus Station AND
No. 146 from Cardiff Airport via Llantwit Major and St. Brides Major straight through to Ewenny and on to Bridgend Bus Station (ie does not travel to Southerndown and Ogmore-by-Sea)

It is wise to check the timetables and the routes because this is a rural area with the result that the only stops which every bus visits are at Wick Village Shop, Farmers Arms (in St. Brides Major), Ewenny and Bridgend Bus Station.  When Bridgend College is in session the route varies slightly to incorporate this stop on the morning journey from Cardiff Airport and the afternoon return from Bridgend.

The service on Sundays and Bank Holidays is No. 145 via the coast to Bridgend.

A mobile library visits the area fortnightly on a Monday (except Bank Holidays) on week 2 of the Vale timetable schedule.  See our Diary Page for specific dates.  It provides free access to a selection of popular fiction, non-fiction, talking books, large print books, and a range of children's books.  For a small charge, a book can be reserved.  To renew books or check dates/times ring Barry (01446) 740688.

Heritage Coast wardens regularly pick litter from the beaches and other groups undertake this task every few months or so.  Apart from the rubbish that is unfortunately left by visitors, twice a day the tide deposits flotsam and jetsam on the shoreline.  The Bristol Channel is a busy shipping lane and many items washed overboard are then broken up by the action of the waves and the rocks.  Many streams flow into the River Ogmore on the journey to the sea and any debris picked up along the way ends up in the estuary and then on the beaches.  All this makes it a never-ending task to keep the coastline clean.  Visit Keep Wales Tidy website

In the summer months when it is particularly hot, there can be an overgrowth of algae which forms a creamy white froth and brown lumpy material in sea water that is very often mistaken for pollution or sewage.  The algae may cause mild skin irritation and should not be swallowed but is not known to be harmful; it is commonly of the species chaetoceros and phaeocystisIf you observe any oil slicks or pollution (ie not algae) this can be reported to Environment Agency Wales on free-phone 0800 807060.
